About DC Caribbean Promoters for Haiti

DC Caribbean Promoters for Haiti is an alliance of Caribbean promoters in the Washington DC area. DCPH was formed to maximize individual contributions to the Haiti recovery and reconstruction effort. The advantages of jointly working together are to: (i) reach a wider audience; (ii) capitalize on resources; and (iii) ultimately raise more money for this worthy cause.

Which groups are involved?

There are over 20 groups currently involved in DCPH. They include: Arious Entertainment; Bakanal Inc.; Basement Knokers; Caribbean Vibes Radio; CaribUnited LLC.; Carnival Bandleaders Association; Crown Bakery; DC Caribbean Carnival Inc.; DC Caribbean Connection; EastCoast Caribbean Events; Fevah Entertainment; Garage Boyz Inc.; Gresham Entertainment; Ice Carnival; Klimaxx; Knockboyz Inc.; Mixx Productions; MyXradio.com; Peppy Entertainment and Promotions; Pumpstation LLC; and SekouFlex Entertainment. As word of our collective effort spreads, awareness from other groups will occur. In fact, awareness has increased not only within the Washington, DC area but other groups have expressed an interest in replicating this model in other states.

What is our goal?

The group has an immediate goal to raise $30,000 in 30 days. Our goal will be achieved primarily through an aggressive online campaign through our website at www.thedcph.org; and through a series of public events held throughout the Washington, DC, area. In addition, supporters can make donations by sending checks to the organization.

Checks should be made payable to:

What charities are supported?

DCPH will contribute to the Haiti relief effort by donating all monies raised to organizations that will provide the people of Haiti with necessary supplies and services including food, water, temporary shelter, and medical attention. The donations will be shared primarily among the following organizations:

  1. Yele Haiti – This foundation, started by Wyclef Jean, was one of the first organizations on the ground in Haiti after the earthquake helping our brothers and sisters.
  2. CARE International – This organization has deployed emergency team members to Port-au-Prince and will also be distributing food. Over 100 staff members are on the ground coordinating with U.N. agencies.” (www.charitynavigator.org)
  3. Medical Teams International – This organization has airlifted over $1.2 million dollars worth of medicine and medical supplies which will help over 45,000 Haitians in the next couple months.

DCPH focused on organizations that were already on the ground in Haiti and whose financial expenditure on the specific cause was over than 95%. Furthermore, these organizations have been vetted by Charity-Navigator.org, “the nation’s largest and most-utilized evaluator of charities” (www.charitynavigator.org).
